Growing up in the 70s and 80s almost invariably meant that, at one point or another, every preteenager asked a family member to take them to the drug store to buy make up. The colors were always black, white, silver, and red. Those were the main colors that the band members from KISS wore on their faces, and trying to figure out how they did the makeup design was part of growing up.

Dressing up and becoming someone else is part of the process, and it’s something that some folks never grow out of. There’s a certain excitement about the transformation, when the figure in the mirror begins to look like another person altogether. In the early attempts, it didn’t ultimately matter how it turned out, and it wasn’t necessarily even important that the colors eventually ran together and it looked like something made of ash. It was fun, and the imagination of the transformation was the essential part.

Today, though, things are different, and adults like to have their alter-egos looking as slick as possible. Now there are rather professional looking Kiss Costumes available, so that every attempt is one that will be met with success. It might not be the same thrill as it was in the pre-teen years, but then again, sometimes one can go home again.
